I’m Varun Dhani, a sales trainer and active salesperson who helps NZ businesses build better sales strategy and selling skills to grow revenue and profitability. I work with sales teams, sales leaders and business owners who want practical, results-driven training without hard selling or gimmicks.

My Story

I didn’t take the usual path. I left school early and started out packing boxes in a warehouse, learning the basics of hard work from the ground up. It wasn’t glamorous but it gave me a strong work ethic and a real appreciation for what it takes to build something. That experience became the foundation for how I approach sales today.

When I moved into sales it was during one of the toughest times: the Global Financial Crisis. Money was tight, businesses were cautious and nothing came easy. I was part of a company starting from zero revenue where discounting and competing on price wouldn’t get us anywhere. I had to figure out how to sell on value. That meant listening properly, understanding what really mattered to customers and learning how to explain it in a way that made sense to them. Those years taught me that sales isn’t about pushing products it’s about solving problems and building trust.

Over the next 10 years that business grew across APAC and I eventually stepped into the role of NZ General Manager. Leading teams in different markets gave me a real sense of how to coach people, build strategy and still stay close to customers. I learnt how to balance leadership with being hands-on and making sure sales conversations actually moved the dial.

While the world slowed down during the pandemic, I started building my second business from scratch while also completing an Executive MBA. It wasn’t easy juggling study, family and a new business but it forced me to sharpen my focus and adapt quickly.

Now I get to work with all kinds of businesses: from global healthcare brands to public policy consultants, helping them with sales strategy and skills that actually work in today’s market. My journey means I don’t just bring theory I bring real experience of building businesses, leading teams and selling in tough conditions.

For me, sales is about hitting numbers while also connecting the value that companies offer to their customers and maximising growth opportunities. That’s the mindset I bring to every client I work with.
